Navajo Weaving - Mother Earth and Fathery Sky Sandpainting by Zonnie Gilmore, C010048

A Navajo sandpainting weaving Mother Earth and Father Sky by Zonnie Gilmore(b. 1939). Zonnie has been weaving her whole life. She has been working to support her family and preserve Navajo culture. She is known for her sandpainting weavings. This one depicts a common sandpainting snapshot. Most sandpainting weavings are not accurate. They do this out of respect to keep sandpaintings sacred. Father sky is the celestial black body that has the moon, sun, and stars. Mother Earth has the four sacred plants inside her. They cross each other to show their balance. At the bottom are the rainbow bars. They are protected by a rainbow Yei. This weaving measures 57" X 46.5".
