This is a Tohono O'odham basket that is woven in as a cylinder shape with coyote track design that goes upward. It is made of beargrass that is wrapped with yucca and the design is made out of devil's claw. This basket like many others is started with a four square knot and merges into a coil method. The yucca has a drying process that makes it a pale yellow color. The rim has some damage but the rest of the basket is in good shape. This basket has a consistent weave that indicates it was made with experience. The techniques are shared between the Tohono O'odham and Pima tribes due to their location by the Gila River. It is difficult to tell the apart. This basket can be used for dry storage or a display piece. If so be sure to handle the basket at the bottom rather than by the rim to preserve its shape. Its a beautiful basket to add to your collection.
