The Randle Collection

For more than 20 years, Aline Randle was a frequent visitor to Toh-Atin Gallery. She loved art. All kinds of art. She was a wealthy woman and, at one time, had a very expensive home with a beautiful gallery, but the art she filled it with was not based on how much it cost. She attended art shows and visited galleries throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and Southwest Colorado. That’s not to say she didn’t have some fabulous and expensive paintings and sculptures, but only if they spoke to her. 

She was what some people would call an eccentric woman. At one time in her life, she collected race cars. Not cars that could be race cars, but cars that ran in the Indy 500 and other races. She was happy in Durango and had friends from all walks of life. She spent her winters in Arizona. Unfortunately, when she was widowed, she found out that much of her wealth was gone. Having lived the kind of life she had enjoyed, most people would probably be devastated. Not Aline. She downsized and rented a double-wide trailer from good friends who had a ranch outside of Durango, and she could keep her home in Arizona. She initially had to sell a large part of her art collection but soon began to purchase works from young artists who showed promise, primarily Native and Western artists. She discovered some amazing landscape artists. She not only bought their work but encouraged her friends to buy it.

Aline was larger than life, with a loud voice and strong opinions about everything, but she was always ready to listen, help, and share in a good joke. When she came into the gallery, she charged the atmosphere.
