  • A Santo Domingo Canteen with bird effigy by Robert Tenorio(b. 1950). Robert creates traditional styled Santo Domingo forms and contemporary. He learned how to make pottery by his great aunt, Lupe Tenorio, and his grandmother, Andrea Ortiz. His pottery is traditionally made from gathered clay and natural paint pigments. This piece has bird effigies around it. The canteens were used to carry water for storage. The images of birds reflect bird behavior. Birds in Pueblo are known to be able to locate water sources. This piece measures 8.5 inches in length and 6 inches in height. It is in excellent condition. This piece is signed.
