  • Billy Tone-pah-hote (1930-1982), (William Beemer Tonepahhote) was a Kiowa artist about whom very little is known. He was part of a wave of artists who followed the inspiration of the Kiowa Six in their style of painting, continuing the efforts of the artists in the group to share the culture and lifestyle of the Kiowa people. He was both a painter and a graphic artist, but appears to have dropped out of the fine art field in mid-life. He served in the Military during the Korean War. Several members of his extended family are known to have been storytellers and dancers and one, Dr. Jenny Tone-Pah-Hote, was a distinguish Kiowa historian. This watercolor measures 13.5” x 13.5” and the frame measures 21” x 21”.
