  • Tiller Wesley (1955-2006), Creek.  Wesley was one of a very small number of full-blooded Creek Indians. He was born and raised in Oklahoma City and is a self-taught artist who began to paint after receiving a gift of paints from a woman at his church. Wesley’s work was included in numerous exhibitions, including the Aspen/Snowmass Celebration for the American Indian, the American Indian Arts Festival in Houston, Texas, and the Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is in the permanent collection of the Kimbell Art Museum.  This mixed media painting is titled Wolf Dancer, and as with all of Wesley’s work, it is based on Plains Indian culture and shows the fine brushstroke technique he was well known for mastering. The painting is 8” x 10” and 17.5” x 19” framed.
