  • The Washoe are the only Great Basin Indians who do not belong to the Numic family. Their presence predates the Norther Paiute. The Washoe territory is anywhere around the California and Nevada border with Lake Tahoe as the heart of their stomping grounds. Ehney Cornbread produced many one rod and gap-stitch baskets after 1935. He also specialized in baby carriers until his death in 1984. This piece is dated 1968 and has an excellent stitch. A unique basket to add to your collection.
