Virginia Stroud was born March 13, 1951 in Madera, California. She was eleven when her mother died and she moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Muskogee High School in 1968 then attended Bacone College and studied art under Cheyenne painter Dick West. She paints with tempera and gouache and is a fine art printmaker. She has written and illustrated several children's books. She is inspired by ancient pictographs and historical ledger art.
