Frances M. Chavarria (1906-2000), 

She actively made pottery from 1930 to 1970. She was the daughter of Cynthia Tafoya and wife of Antonio Chavarria. A number of her pots are in the Heard Museum collection in Phoenix, Arizona.

  • This Santa Clara pot features the Avanyu "Water Serpent" around the shoulder of the vessel. The serpent is a water spirit to the Pueblo people and is said to live in the Rio Grande river and it's tributaries that run all through New Mexico.  Frances M. Chavarria actively made pottery from 1930 to 1970. She was the daughter of Cynthia Tafoya and wife of Antonio Chavarria. A number of her pots are in the Heard Museum collection in Phoenix Arizona.
