This basket is made from reeds and bark of the sumac trees. This basket has various uses in Navajo culture; puberty rites, healing ceremonies and is mostly known as a wedding basket. The black designs represent the sacred mountains that surround Navajo land. The red ring in the middle represents the beginning of life. The center is the emergence where the Navajo people believe we came from. This basket has a consistent flow of color on both sides. It has a tight weave and some parts have wear in it. It is a unique piece to add to your collection.
