Title: Hon Kachina/Köcha Honau, “White Bear”
Materials: wood, yarn, animal fur, feathers, leather, animal skin, shell, sinew, paint
The great strength of this katsina has led many to believe that he can heal the
sick. He often appears at Soyal on First Mesa as a side dancer or watchman of
Chakwaina. Additionally, he might come alone or in a group during Powamuya,
and can appear in a few different colors. He is most familiar from the Mixed
Katsina Dance (Wright, Kachinas: a Hopi artist’s documentary, 114).
