Hopi Pottery - Bowl by Fawn Navasie, CPOTMBG17-31

Fawn Navasie

4.5" H

6.5" opening

26.5" around bowl

Condition: some damage

  • Fawn Navasie was born in 1959 on the Hopi reservation. She was inspired to continue the family tradition of making pottery by her late mother, the famous "Eunice" (original Fawn) Navasie". Fawn is the niece of Frog Woman, sister to Dawn Navasie and Dolly Joe. She is also the spouse of well-known Hopi pottery James Garcia Nampeyo.

This bowl by Fawn has a cream color slip like the ones "Frog Woman" uses for her pottery. The design around the pot has fine lines and bold orange in it. There are some parts where the color has either faded. The overall color has a slight orange/cream which comes from the firing process. There is one part of the pot that has a little chip that is visible. It looks as if it was covered with a small piece of clay and has the orangish color over it. That shows that happened before the firing. The bowl has subtle marks from polishing that are visible when looked at in the light. A fine bowl to add to your collection.
