Hopi wicker baskets were made to store dry foods or other types of storage. Some were used for ceremonial purposes while others were given away as gifts. This basket is made out of plaiting slender stems of rabbitbrush over and under warps of squawberry sumac shoots. There is a variety of rabbitbrush and they all are used depending on mesa location. This basket has natural, orange, yellow and black dyes used in the rabbitbrush. This base has four strong sumac shoots to form the basket. It has a loose wrapped yucca splits on the rim. This basket its made well and has some wear which is typical of a basket that has been used. A fine basket to add to your collection.
