A Hopi coil basket with crow mother and konin or supai kachina. The crow mother kachina appears on all three mesas and is connected with the initiation of the children but appears on other occasions. The Konin and Supai kachinas are from the Havasupai tribe. They appear very similar and is hard to determine without a body. However the face reflects the Havasupai dancers. This basket is coiled with a bundle of galleta grass and sewn wiht narrow splints of yucca leaves. The base colors are natural shades of yucca while other dyes can be obtained; sunflower seeds- black, Navajo tea- yellow/orange. This basket has a consistent weave and is in perfect shape. A beautiful basket to add to your collection.
