Chimayo, New Mexico is home to the Ortega Weaving Shop which has been family owned since the 1700's. This textile was woven for Sallie Lippincott between 1960-1990's by David Ortega and his family. The banded weavings from Chimayo are wool warp and wool weft blankets with end fringing. In this blanket we have small strips with a Railroad Tie strip throughout, the Navajo weavers also used this technique in their rugs. This blanket measures close to 4 by 5 foot area size perfect as throw in the home or office.
