Maria Montoya Poveka Martinez is often referred to as one of the most famous Pueblo potters. She and her husband are well known for producing the "black-on-black" pottery technique. This bowl is beautifully formed and polished. The finishing polish gives the pot a "gun-metal" shine and at the bottom of the pottery is signed "Maria Poveka" where she uses her Tewa name. The bowl measures 4" wide by 3 1/2" tall.
