Born in 1948, Jean Sahmie lives at First Mesa on the Hopi reservation in northern Arizona. A granddaughter of Nampeyo, she uses the cornstalk hallmark to sign her pottery, along with her Hopi-Tewa name Sak’ Honsee, which means Tobacco Flower Girl.
