Wendell Yazzie Silas is a Navajo artist who creates exquisite pieces of art, and this deer kachina is just one example of his talent! The deer kachina you see here is made from the root of a cottonwood tree, hours of time and patient hands were all necessary to create this piece. The deer kachina is a social dancer who helps to ensure a good winter of snow. This kachina is holding sticks to imitate the front legs of a deer and has a wreath around its neck to protect him. The kachina stands 9 1/2" tall and the base measures 4 1/4" by 4 1/2".
