Mae Jim's Ganado Red Weavings

Mae Jim’s Weavings on display at Toh-Atin Gallery

Many of you saw our Facebook posts, on May 23rd, about the two large Ganado Red weavings that were created by famed weaver, Mae Jim, in the 1980’s.

We took these two amazing weavings down to Ganado High School, where one of Mae Jim's nephews was graduating, and they were used as the backdrop for the graduation exercises.

The weavings are regularly taken out of our vault for their family celebrations and it is a special honor for us to be able to provide them for the family’s use.

These are two of the finest large Navajo rugs ever woven. One was the Best of Show winner at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial and the other one toured museums around the world as a part of the “Lost and Found Traditions” show in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Both of the weavings will be on display for our First Thursday Art Walk tomorrow and through the weekend.  We will be keeping one displayed through September.

Please don’t miss the opportunity to see both of these outstanding pieces hanging together in the gallery for the first time. It’s a sight worth taking in! And when you have family and friends in town be sure to bring them by to see Mae's masterpiece that will hang all summer. They will thank you for it.
